How to Use Pastel for Feedback

We use Pastel to make collecting your feedback on our work seamless. It’s an easy-to-use tool that allows you to provide feedback directly on a page or design we share with you. Here's how to get started and make the most of this tool.

What is Pastel?

Pastel is a feedback tool that makes it super easy for individuals to give and receive actionable feedback within teams and with clients.

When we share a Pastel link with you, it opens a "canvas" — a live, interactive version of the page or design with built-in feedback tools. You can click directly on the page to leave comments, ensuring your feedback is precise and tied to the exact location you’re referring to.

Leaving Comments in a Pastel Canvas

Follow the steps below to get started leaving comments:

  • Open the link to the canvas in our browser
  • Click anywhere on the page where you’d like to leave feedback

  • The first time you comment, you’ll be asked to enter your name and email address. This ensures we know who provided the feedback and allows you to receive responses to your comments.
  • After entering your details, type your comment in the box that appears.
  • Be as specific as possible to help us understand your feedback clearly.

Navigating Between Pages

If the canvas includes multiple pages, switch to Browse Mode using the toggle at the bottom of the screen.

In Browse Mode, you can interact with links and navigate the site as you normally would. Once on the desired page, switch back to comment mode and continue leaving feedback.

Tips for Providing Helpful Feedback

  • Be specific: Instead of saying "change the colour," mention "change the button colour to blue to match the branding."
  • Point out both likes and areas for improvement.
  • Use one comment per idea or suggestion for clarity.

What Happens After You Leave Feedback?

Once you’ve finished commenting:

  • Reply to the email where we shared the Pastel link to let us know you’re done reviewing the page.
  • This is important because it helps us confirm whether you plan to add more comments or if you're done providing feedback.
  • We’ll review your comments and start incorporating your feedback. If we need clarification, we’ll follow up with you directly.
  • By letting us know when you’ve completed your review, we can avoid interruptions while you’re still working on your feedback and ensure our updates align with your suggestions.
